THE BORDER BETWEEN BELGIUM AND THE NETHERLANDS (2001)

 

While the contours of one Europe are becoming increasingly apparent, the border between Belgium and the Netherlands is slowly disappearing in the landscape.

But does the border also disappear in our mind? Does it matter if you are a Dutch or  a Belgian? Or have we all become Europeans? 

Along with journalist Mérie van der Rijt I wandered through this border area. We promised ourselves that we were not allowed to go further than 200 metres away from the border. And so we went through a very long and narrow area from South Limburg to the coast of Zeeland. An area full of stories.
